>>Hello. I’m Dawn LaPorte, and I am a hand and upper extremity
surgeon and a professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Johns Hopkins. I also serve as Residency Program Director for the orthopedic training program. I take care of adults and children with hand and upper extremity concerns. My areas of clinical expertise include hand and wrist injuries,
including ligament and tendon injuries and fractures, as well as arthritis, nerve
compression syndromes, including carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, avascular necrosis,
and Dupuytren’s contracture. I chose the field of hand surgery because hand function is
so important to people. I truly enjoy relieving patients’ pain and helping them return
to what they love doing, for example, playing tennis or golf, knitting or painting,
playing the piano or violin, holding hands, or holding
onto an infant or a loved one. My philosophy of patient care is to work with each individual patient to determine the best treatment for their goals. I am committed to working with each of my patients
from their presentation and diagnosis through their
treatment and rehabilitation in order to achieve the
best outcomes possible. If I can be of any help
to you or a loved one, please reach out to me or the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. Thank you. (dramatic music)
