(Sharon:) A Medication Assistant is a person
that helps dispense medications to patients in nursing homes or long-term care facilities. (Jody:) You learn all the
different drug classes. You learn the effects they
can have on the body-system, you learn the different ways
of giving the medications. (Sharon:) You need to be a
Certified Nursing Assistant first, then someone in your facility needs to
sponsor you to go into Medication Assistant. You need someone very meticulous,
because you don’t want to make a mistake and give them the wrong prescription. We’re talking about very medically frail people, and a mistake with a medication
could be life or death. (Jody:) This is something
that is very important. You’re dealing with peoples lives.
